Salmon Rock Beach, Portballintrae

General Beach Description

Salmon Rock Beach, Portballintrae is a small sandy beach located in the heart of this seaside village. It consists mainly of a sandy area with a rocky shoreline at either end and enclosed by offshore rocks. The beach is accessed from the roadside footpath above by means of steps at the western end and a gentle gradient path at the eastern end. This is a very enclosed beach, popular with families and small children, although swimming is generally not encouraged due to challenging conditions. There is an ample car park, picnic areas, toilets and shop adjacent to the beach.

Please note – there is no Lifeguard Service at this beach.  The nearest beach with a seasonal lifeguard service is Whiterocks Beach, approx 3.5 miles westwards towards Portrush.

Did you know?

Part of the neighbouring West Bay beach in Portballintrae to the west and Runkerry Strand (Bushfoot Strand) to the east are designated as Areas of Special Scientific Interest (ASSIs).  It is possible to access Runkerry Strand, and onwards towards the Giant's Causeway, on foot via the wooden footbridge (known locally as the 'Threequarter' footbridge) over the River Bush, only a short walk from Salmon Rock beach.
