Coronavirus Restrictions
As we begin a new month, I want to remind everyone that we must still adhere to ongoing coronavirus restrictions and health advice.
We are indebted to our healthcare workers for their efforts, including those involved in the vaccine roll-out. We can best show our support for them by collectively adhering to the guidance and upholding the restrictions.

Civic Gifts
I’ve launched a very special initiative to coincide with the centenary of Northern Ireland which will see a civic gift presented to our residents, organisations and businesses who will celebrate their own 100th birthday or anniversary this year.
It is our aim to use the centenary of Northern Ireland to celebrate our people, places and products and this includes our oldest residents and institutions who have been a part of the fabric of our society for the past century.
We are calling on the public to help identify those eligible to receive this honour throughout the year.

New High Sherriff
I was delighted to watch on as Paula McIntyre MBE officially accepted the role of High Sheriff of County Londonderry for 2021.
Paula will be a fantastic ambassador for the area and I wish her every success.
Black Santa presentations
Congratulations to Alastair Coyles, Ballymoney’s Black Santa, who has helped five very worthy local charities following his fundraising efforts in December.
Alastair presented his donations this week to St. Vincent De Paul, the Samaritans, Salvation Army, Drop Inn Ministries & Can and this money is vital to these organisations who play an important role in our local communities.
Conard McCullough
During these difficult times it’s encouraging for all of us to see community spirit in action, and it was an honour to meet Portrush man Conard McCullough, who rescued his neighbour from a house fire in early January.
I presented Conard with a certificate and a token of appreciation in recognition of his actions.
People locally have also rallied to support those affected by the fire and this demonstration of community strength and resilience offers much needed hope at this time.
